I am very pleased with the service I have received… I would recommend Holmes & Hills to friends and colleagues - Mrs Jones
DePuy ASR hip replacement units:
DePuy is a particular manufacturer of hip replacement units that has been at the centre of recent controversy due to the high failure rate of its false hips. The DePuy ASR (Articular Surface Replacement) has been used in approximately 8,000 operations in the UK and many thousands more worldwide. Many recipients of these units have suffered as a result of their replacement hip failing.
The ASR replacement hip is what is known as a metal-on-metal unit because both parts of the joint are made of a metal composite. It is the metal-on-metal design of the hip which is reported to lead to tiny fragments of these metal parts finding their way into the individual’s bloodstream, resulting in metallosis, a potentially harmful type of blood poisoning.
Common symptoms suffered by DePuy hip replacement claimants:
Recipients of the hip have been reported to suffer from erosion of the tissue surrounding the hip joint. This can lead to:
- Significant and recurring pain
- Swelling
- Problems with mobility and stability
- Loss of feeling in the hip and leg
Whilst the above symptoms are common in cases of faulty DePuy hip replacements, it is important to remember there may be other symptoms caused by a faulty hip unit which may well seem unrelated.
