The Construction Solicitor NQ-2 Year PQE role

The successful candidate will be a current trainee looking to qualify into construction or an NQ who has already had exposure to, or begun to specialise in, Construction litigation. 

The candidate will be working closely alongside specialist construction solicitors Sam Bawden (Partner) and Lawrence Pearce (Associate), who have a wide range of long-standing clients across the construction supply chain nationwide. The team is highly successful and has several high-profile clients.  You will be joining a forward thinking firm in a period of exciting growth and expansion and the candidate will be encouraged to assist in the team's growth with business development opportunities from the start. 

For candidates currently undertaking a training contract, construction may have been an area touched upon during your litigation seat and we would welcome applications from those that have an interest in construction but may not have undertaken a full training seat.

Regardless of the level of experience, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of matters from day 1 and will be provided in-depth training to support their career.

Recent examples of work the team has acted on:

  • 22 Adjudications in 2021 so far covering, amongst other things, interim and final account payment disputes, including a claim for loss of profit against a national housebuilder following its repudiatory breach of contract.
  • Successful enforcement of Adjudicator’s decisions in the TCC, including those challenged on novel jurisdictional arguments and/or involving Part 8 claims for declaratory relief.
  • Construction contract reviews, negotiation and pre-construction advice to a global food retailer.
  • Successful litigation on behalf of a homeowner in relation to defective works relating to a swimming pool and underground car garage at his countryside home.
  • On behalf of a ceiling and partitions sub-contractor, negotiated a mediated settlement with the Hong Kong-based owners, of a high value dispute relating to the fit out of a London hotel.
  • Partnering with the Scaffolding Association to offer its members access to expert legal advice. Numerous instructions received across contentious and non-contentious matters since January 2021.

What experience do I need?

Ideally you will have knowledge and experience within construction work and you will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in this area.
