The Infrastructure Support Engineer Role

In this role you will provide day-to-day support to your colleagues at H&H.  This includes desktop support and project support for our six sites. You will also be responsible for  deploying, maintaining, monitoring, and repairing our computer and network infrastructure.

For this role you will need to be able to drive and have your own vehicle to be able to provide support for all six sites.

The day to day

  • Administer computer networks and related computing environments including servers, routers, firewalls, switches and storage arrays, virtual hosts/hypervisors, the WAN and the LAN including Wireless Networking.
  • Oversees the data backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Actively monitors and analyses user requests, evaluates, and applies solutions.
  • Troubleshoots IT technical issues and resolves in a courteous, professional, and timely manner in person, via email, telephone, or remote desktop access.
  • Completes setup and configuration of company laptops and desktops and troubleshooting of those devices as well.
  • Maintains accurate IT asset inventory and assist in the acquisition, deployment, support and retiring of IT assets based on the firm's policies.
  • Work with Vendors on Hardware warranty issues.
  • Install patches and upgrades hardware and software following the firm's lifecycle management policies.
  • Monitors and maintains email applications, virus protection software, web filtering and monitoring appliances and firewall profiles.
  • Implements network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Assist with new IT projects by assisting with the investigation and recommendation for systems hardware and or software appropriate for the firm to meet its objectives.

What experience and qualifications do I need?

You should have a relevant qualification (IT Related Educational or professional) or relevant proven experience. You should have knowledge and experience of:

  • VLANs, VPNs, VOIP, SIP, Networking protocols
  • Windows server 2012, 2016 and 2019
  • Virtual server technologies (VMware and/or Hyper-V)
  • Windows 10 Desktop
  • Laptop, Desktop, Tablet, and mobile phone configuration
  • Office 365

What skills should I have?

Problem solving: ability to quickly identify hardware, software, and network issues, review related information and evaluate and implement solutions.

Communication: communicates effectively and appropriately.  Speaks and writes clearly and credibly.   Actively listen to others.  Ability to present information to technical and non-technical persons, both across the firm and with outside vendors as required.

Team working: ability to work well both as part of a team and independently.

The A12 commercial Hub offers colleagues free parking, agile working space, and easy access by road (being based on J25 of the A12) or train (500m from Marks Tey train station).

Who will I be working with?

You will be working within the growing IT Team at Holmes & Hills and will be supervised by the Head of IT and Infrastructure. You will also work closely with colleagues across the firm.
