The Research Assistant/Technician role

This is a new role part-time/reduced hours role within the Planning and Development Team created to help the team effectively understand clients’ objectives and deliver specialist expert advice. As such you will be working as an integral part of the Planning & Development Team directly with the Partners, Senior Solicitors, Solicitors and the other fee earners.

The primary focus of the role is research, obtain, collate and review planning, property ownership and other relevant information/documentation to enable to the team to deliver practical advice to clients.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to work in a busy, varied and property focused administrative role.

The day to day

Your day to day work will include:

  • Receiving instruction from the team as to the information and documentation that is required on each matter.
  • Carrying out reseach as to property ownership.
  • Obtaining, collating and reviewing relevant documents from H M Land Registry.
  • Piecing together plans in order to outline and schedule ownership of large development sites.
  • Carrying out research as to the planning history of sites.
  • Obtaining, collating and reviewing documents from Local Planning Authorities’ planning websites.
  • Reporting to the Planning Team on the information/documentation that has been obtained and dealing with further investigations that may arise.
  • Submitting appeals to the Planning Inspecotate via its on-line portal.

Providing general overflow support to the team’s secretarial and administrative support.

What experience do I need?

Experience of working in an administrative role for a property professional organisation or a legal firm would be advantageous. As an element of the role may include overflow support to the team’s secretarial and administrative support, being able to audio type would also be advantageous.

Training as to the industry specific requirements of the role and use of the various online resources will be provided.

What skills and attributes should I have?

The ideal candidate will be/have:

  • organised and capable of managing a workload to meet deadlines.
  • good IT and web based research skills.
  • good communication skills and the ability to work with others as part of a team.
  • excellent attention to detail.
  • the ability to think outside of the box.

Who will I be working with?

All Fee Earners within the Planning and Development team, to include two Partners, two Senior Solicitors and two Solicitors, in addition to other secretarial and support staff.
