Faulty DePuy hips used in West Yorkshire hospitals

Hospitals in West Yorkshire have been found to have used the now recalled DePuy hip replacement unit in what may be hundreds of hip replacement operations between 2003 and 2010. Holmes & Hills Solicitors are acting for clients who received these faulty hip replacements at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and are investigating use of the hips at a number of other hospitals in Kirklees, Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield. Holmes & Hills' team of clinical negligence solicitors will be seeking clinical negligence compensation on their behalf.

DePuy ASR hip units were predominately used in younger patients as it was claimed they were designed to last longer than alternative models. However DePuy, the company who manufactured the hips and who produce a wide range of products used by surgeons, recalled the hips in August of last year after growing concern over their safety.

Statistics released by the British Orthopaedic Association show that on average these hips will fail in 49% of cases after just five years, compared with an average failure rate of just 2.9% for alternative models.

Holmes & Hills clients who have received these hips have reported suffering large amounts of swelling around the hip, recurring pain and impaired mobility, as well as the erosion of tissue and even blood poisoning in the most serious of cases.

As well as investigating all cases of DePuy hips and acting for patients across the country making claims against DePuy, Holmes & Hills are also investigating the extent to which other potentially harmful hip replacement units have been used in West Yorkshire hospitals.
