MoD sees increase in number of PTSD cases

Following a Freedom of Information Act request made to the Ministry of Defence (MoD), it has been revealed there was a 10% increase in the number of reported cases of soldiers suffering mental health problems in the four years up to 2010.

Soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) make up around 10% of all cases where military personnel report suffering psychological problems. They also represent a significant proportion of the increase in reported cases mental illness among servicemen and women over recent years.

This increase is somewhat unsurprising considering Britain’s recent military presence in Iraq and the armed forces’ on-going presence in Afghanistan. Further, the number of PTSD sufferers coming forward has increased as high profile campaigns reduce the stigma associated with the disorder and a growing number of charities dedicated to supporting acting servicemen and veterans suffering with PTSD are formed.

Holmes & Hills Solicitors offer free initial legal advice and representation to all PTSD sufferers looking to make a military PTSD compensation claim.
