Charity Bike Ride 2013

Over 220 riders took part in this year’s Holmes & Hills Solicitors Charity Bike Ride, helping us to raise money for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and Farleigh Hospice, two very deserving charities close to the hearts of many of the staff at Holmes & Hills.

This year’s Bike Ride was by far the largest to date and we received great support from a range of local businesses who entered teams, donated generously and raised a significant amount in additional sponsorship. A special mention must be given to Tiptree Patisserie (a subsidiary of Wilkin & Sons of Tiptree) who donated a giant cake designed and crafted by hand especially for the event.

As with previous Holmes & Hills Bike Rides the event attracted riders of all ages and abilities, the youngest rider on the day was aged just 9. Over £1,800 was raised through donations and entrance fees and more is still being received in the form of additional sponsorship raised by the riders. We expect to raise in excess of £3,000 once all the sponsorship money has been collected.

Riders had a choice of completing a 32 or 50 mile route through the scenic countryside of north Essex. Starting in Halstead riders headed through the region’s rural villages before stopping for some much needed lunch in Sudbury, provided by Holmes & Hills at Subdury AFC’s football ground. They then made their way back to Holmes & Hillsin Halstead where they were rewarded with a complimentary hog roast, BBQ and refreshments.

Although the weather took a turn for the worse and we had to deal with an unprecedented number of punctures, a great day was had by all, event those few that managed to get lost along the way.

Julie Booker- Sawyer of Farleigh Hospice said: “Holmes & Hills organise a great Bike Ride every year which raises much needed funds for local charities. We are pleased they were able to use this year’s event to support Farleigh Hospice, the funds raised will help us to continue our work supporting those with life limiting illnesses, as well as their families.”
