Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Support UK is Holmes & Hills charity of the year

Holmes and Hills Solicitors are pleased to announce that they are supporting Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Support UK for their internal charity of the year.

The charity, which was nominated by Senior Solicitor, Michelle Cochrane provides support to those affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy as well as helping to raise awareness of the condition.

SMA is a rare but complex neuromuscular condition, providing those affected and their families with a number of challenges. The condition causes progressive muscular weakness and loss of movement due to muscle wasting (atrophy). Depending on the severity of the condition it can lead to weakness in the arms and legs and therefore difficulty walking and carrying out daily activities through to a very short life expectancy in the most severe cases. SMA is the number one genetic killer in children under 2 years of age.

Money will be raised by Holmes & Hills employees for SMA Support UK through dress down days once a month as well as a number of other events, including employee Dean Stanhope completing a charity bike ride in July, and in previous years has raised hundreds of pounds.

Michelle Cochrane who nominated the charity which was then selected by employees at Holmes & Hills said:“I am incredibly honoured that employees at Holmes & Hills have chosen to raise money for SMA Support UK – a charity very close to my heart. Not only will raising money help the charity but I also hope to raise awareness of the condition, which despite being the number one genetic killer in children under 2 years of age is still relatively unknown.”
