Employees from Holmes & Hills Solicitors 5 offices in Braintree, Coggeshall, Sudbury, Halstead & Tiptree have donated 106 advent calendars to the Braintree Area Food Bank.
It is the second consecutive year that Holmes & Hills employees have donated advent calendars to the Food Bank, following an appeal started by two employees at the firm. This also follows an earlier donation of food and hygiene items in the past few months.
One in five people live in poverty in the UK and with rising food and fuel prices, The Braintree Area Food Bank often sees an increase in demand throughout the winter months as families are forced to choose between heating their home or providing a meal on the table.
Project Manager of the Food Bank, Maggie Drewett said: ‘”Be as generous as you can be, there has been a 65% increase in clients coming through since 1st April compared to the same period last year. We really are looking for the foods listed on the shopping list but all donations are welcome.”
The Braintree Area Food Bank has four centres including 1 in Halstead and provides food packages to families, relying on donations by the general public as well as local organisations. The list of urgently required items can be found on the Food Bank website: https://braintreearea.foodbank.org.uk/
Lauren Howard, Family Law Solicitor who helped to donate the advent calendars said: “I am so pleased to be able to donate more than 100 advent calendars to the Braintree Area Food Bank and want to thank Holmes & Hills employees for their generosity. For many families an advent calendar is a luxury that they cannot afford so to be able to put a smile on a child’s face this festive period is a great achievement.”
