Construction solicitors deliver Variation and Extra Hire webinar to 100s of scaffolding companies

Holmes & Hills’ specialist Division of construction solicitors hosted their third webinar for the scaffolding industry which was the most popular topic for the series of online events thus far.

Organised in partnership with The Scaffolding Association, 200 scaffolding contract managers and scaffolding company directors signed up to attend the free event. Although organised with the Scaffolding Association, both Association members and non-members were eligible to attend.

The webinar covered an important and topical subject for those working within a scaffolding business – Managing Variations and Extra Hire in Scaffolding Contracts. This topic was decided after considering the suggested subjects and feedback from the two previous events run in conjunction with the scaffolding industry.

Holmes & Hills specialist construction solicitors discussed the legal and practical considerations of how to effectively manage variations and extra hire situations relating to scaffolding contracts.

Specialist construction solicitors, Sam Bawden, Lawrence Pearce, and Abbie Chisnall briefed attendees about what to do if a scaffolding company is often finding themselves in situations where they are having to deal with the implications of extra hire and variation on their projects.

Covering in more detail, the specific questions below:

  • Defining Variation
  • What to do if Variation is disputed
  • When and if scaffolders can refuse to carry out work
  • Defining Extra Hire
  • What to do if you have extra hire in your tender
  • What to do if you can’t get paid.

Holmes & Hills Construction Division armed attendees with the knowledge necessary to protect against risk placed on the scaffolding contractor regarding Variation and Extra Hire clauses, as well as priming attendees with the ability to maximise the value of their scaffolding contracts to their business regarding these circumstances. During the webinar, listeners were encouraged to review their contracts live.

The webinar concluded with a comprehensive question and answer session where pertinent questions from those scaffolding industry professionals attending were answered by the three specialist construction speakers.
