Where can I get free divorce advice?

An online search for free divorce advice yields hundreds of results, from online support forums to news and lifestyle websites. Some divorce solicitors may also be offering some free advice.

Free divorce advice: what do I get?

In our experience the offering is a free 15 min call or free half an hour. After initial greetings and introduction this gives very little time to provide anything other than generic advice.

Typically, a 30 minute free divorce advice appointment will include a legal professional taking your personal details and a brief overview of your situation, and usually, will provide generic advice. The 30 minutes you are given is, in most cases, not enough time to be able to understand the specifics of your situation, and thus formulate tailored advice.

Most of the information given at these appointments is probably also available online. Therefore, Holmes & Hills divorce lawyers would always suggest that initial advice given should be specific advice to you and based on your circumstances, and this takes time. Every situation is unique, and you deserve to receive the best advice available to you.

Fixed fee divorce advice: why should I pay?

Holmes & Hills family law solicitors offer a fixed fee one hour appointment with a qualified lawyer where they will listen to, and have the time to understand your personal circumstances, which is vital when dealing with such an emotional and life changing decision.

Before the appointment, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire which will include your personal details, and information pertinent to your current situation to help the solicitor formulate the correct advice.

At the appointment, having talked through your situation, your solicitor will then discuss the options available to you and answer any questions you may have. The appointment normally takes about an hour and will be entirely dedicated to understanding and giving advice that is relevant to you and your personal circumstances.

After the appointment you will receive a written follow up detailing the information discussed and given, as we understand there is a lot of information to take in. Having this information in a written form allows you to consider the advice given in your own time.

If you decide to proceed, Holmes & Hills can assist you with your divorce including financial settlements and child matters.
