Holmes & Hills welcomes Associate Sophie Bennett to its expanding Construction Department

Holmes & Hills is pleased to announce that Sophie Bennett has joined the firm’s Construction Department as an Associate, further strengthening its non-contentious construction offering.

Sophie joined Holmes & Hills in early 2026 from City law firm Wedlake Bell, bringing with her strong technical expertise and extensive experience advising on development-led construction projects.

Strengthening the firm’s non-contentious construction offering

Sophie specialises in non-contentious construction matters, supporting clients involved in complex commercial development projects. Her appointment forms part of the Construction Department’s continued strategic growth and enhances the firm’s ability to provide integrated legal advice throughout the development lifecycle.

Having advised on projects typically ranging from £5 million to £100 million across the UK, Sophie regularly supports developers, funders, contractors and professional teams on the non-contentious construction elements of major schemes.

Her experience includes advising on a wide range of construction documentation, including;

  • JCT and NEC contracts
  • professional appointments
  • collateral warranties
  • bespoke construction agreements

She is particularly experienced in risk allocation, contract structuring and procurement strategy, helping clients establish clear contractual frameworks that support efficient project delivery and minimise the risk of disputes.

Sophie’s appointment also supports Holmes & Hills’ continued collaboration between its Construction, Planning, Land & Development and Commercial Property teams, enabling the firm to provide comprehensive legal support for development projects across Essex, Suffolk and nationwide.

Supporting the department’s continued growth

Holmes & Hills’ Construction Department has expanded significantly in recent years and now advises developers, contractors, consultants and funders on projects across the UK. Sophie’s arrival further strengthens the firm’s non-contentious capability and supports the team’s ability to assist clients from procurement through to project completion.

Her experience also aligns with the firm’s continued growth in key sectors including care home development, hospitality projects, data centres and large-scale commercial schemes.

Lawrence Pearce, Partner and Co-Head of Construction at Holmes & Hills, said:

“Sophie’s appointment strengthens our strategy to offer a full-service construction practice. Her expertise allows us to support clients earlier in the development process with strong contractual foundations and effective risk management, helping to prevent disputes before they arise.

“She also enhances our ability to collaborate with our Planning, Land & Development and Commercial Property teams, enabling us to provide seamless support from site acquisition through to project delivery.”

Sophie Bennett added “I’m delighted to return to the eastern region and join the Holmes & Hills Construction Department at such an exciting time for development, particularly with the growth of emerging sectors such as data centres.

“What attracted me to Holmes & Hills is the firm’s collaborative culture and the opportunity to help expand a strong front-end construction practice that supports clients throughout the lifecycle of their projects.”
