A major national infrastructure project delivering Heathrow’s proposed third runway.
The expansion of Heathrow Airport (Third Runway) is a nationally significant infrastructure project promoted by Heathrow Airport Limited to deliver a new runway to the northwest of the existing airport, together with supporting airfield, terminal and transport infrastructure, works to the M25, local roads and rivers, temporary construction works and other associated development, all of which will support an increase in the capacity of the airport.
This is a significant scheme affecting many homeowners, landowners and businesses which, if confirmed, will give Heathrow Airport Limited powers to buy or take land for the benefit of the scheme and without the legal owner’s agreement or consent.
The team have acted on the May 2021 reinstatement of the Interim Property Hardship Scheme. See the Heathrow Property Compensation Schemes for further detail.
The current stage of the Expansion of Heathrow Airport (Third Runway) scheme is set out below.
On current estimates a formal application for powers under a development consent order to authorise the scheme is likely to be submitted by December 2027; land required for the scheme has already been identified in a National Policy statement. Subject to confirmation of the relevant Development Consent Order, Heathrow Airport Limited will prepare to acquire the land necessary to develop the scheme, whether by agreement or compulsorily
