Construction Law Webinar with CIOB: Contract Administration and the avoidance of Negligence Claims

Specialist Construction Law solicitors, Sam Bawden, Lawrence Pearce, and trainee solicitor Chrissie Parkes will speak on CIOB (London Hub) webinar on Tuesday 23rd November at 18:00.

The webinar will address the various roles of a surveyor and some of the common mistakes that can be made and will cover a range of topics including: 

  • The surveyor’s role in assisting clients with resolving defects claims, either informally or in the capacity of an expert witness
  • Key points to be aware of when acting as Contract Administrator 
  • Provide an update on the latest professional negligence case law and a list of top tips to assist surveyors with the all important topic of making sure they get paid.

The webinar will be of particular interest to surveyors acting for both domestic and commercial clients and will be held virtually as a webinar with a Q&A at the end of the session.

This event is free for CIOB members and £10 for non-members.

Speakers:

Sam Bawden, Partner, Holmes & Hills Solicitors

As well as being a specialist Construction Law solicitor, Sam is a Partner at Holmes & Hills Solicitors and leads the firm's Civil Litigation Team. Sam works in partnership with and represents a range of clients throughout East Anglia and London. Sam regularly works closely alongside professional, regional, and London-based professional contacts and has significant experience of Adjudication, Arbitration, and Litigation in all tracks in the County Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal. In addition, Sam advises clients on contracts and terms proposed by employers prior to engagement, as well throughout and at the conclusion of a client's engagement with an employer, contractor, or sub-contractor.

Lawrence Pearce, Associate, Holmes & Hills Solicitors

Lawrence works with main contractors, sub-contractors, and contract managers, making and defending claims relating to construction contractors arising out of construction projects. He works with clients within the construction industry to highlight potential risks associated with projects, mitigate exposure to said risks, or make claims relating to construction contracts with a view to resolving disputes as favourably and cost-effectively as possible. Lawrence's client base includes main contractors and large sub-contractors based in East Anglia, the South East, and London, many of which operate nationally. Within the field of Construction Law, Lawrence has particular experience in advising and representing clients in respect of Adjudications as well as having a wealth of experience advising on the effective enforcement of Adjudicator's decisions, Arbitrator's awards, and Technology and Construction Court (TCC) ruling.

Chrissie Parkes, Trainee Solicitor, Holmes & Hills Solicitors

As a Trainee Solicitor in the Holmes & Hills' Construction Team, Chrissie works alongside senior members of the Construction Team, Sam Bawden and Lawrence Pearce in servicing construction companies, to provide advice on construction contracts and construction contract disputes. She works with contractors and sub-contractors, as well as contract and project managers, to ensure clients' commercial interests are protected when entering, exiting, or disputing construction contracts.
