Two ‘Star Associates’ recognised in the Holmes & Hills Planning and Development Team

Holmes & Hills Planning and Development Team has continued success in the Chambers & Partners 2022, maintaining their team band ranking as well as boasting two Star Associates.

Holmes & Hills’ specialist team of Planning Law solicitors has once again been recognised by Chambers & Partners as one of the leading sources of advice on the Planning Law.

Chambers & Partners, the prestigious independent legal research organisation and publisher, published its latest insight into the legal industry on 21st October 2021. Chambers & Partners undertakes extensive research into law firms, interviewing peers within the legal industry, clients, and professional contacts with a view to identifying the leading specialists across a number of fields of legal practice.

For many years, Holmes & Hills Solicitors has been identified as one of the leading suppliers of Planning Law advice in East Anglia. In the 2022 edition of the Chambers & Partners, Holmes & Hills has sustained their ranking, being recognised for their expertise in the ‘planning aspects of residential, mixed-use, and commercial developments’ acting for a number of local authorities, developers, and landowners. Further commentary on the team notes their regular engagement on contentious Planning Law issues, as well as a specialism in Section 106 agreements for which senior solicitors and Section 106 experts, Jo Lilliott and Tom McPhie are individually commended as Star Associates.

This most recent recognition by Chambers & Partners follows similar recognition for the team by the Legal 500 in September 2021 and Planning magazine’s May 2021 ranking of the team as one of the leading teams of Planning Law solicitors in the country.

Personal recognition for Planning Law solicitors

Jo Lilliott, senior solicitor and member of Holmes & Hills’ Planning and Development Team since 2005, is personally recognised for her stand-out individual expertise and experience. Jo is regarded by the Chambers & Partners, as ‘a highly regarded practitioner sought out by both public and private sector clients for her deep expertise in Section 106 agreements and highways law’.

Jo Lilliott is ranked for the third consecutive year by Chambers & Partners

Continually, Jo has been recognised as a specialist in advising on the negotiating and drafting S106 Agreements. This recognition in the 2022 edition of Chambers & Partners is a hattrick for Jo’s individual recognition in the respected legal directory, for which she has been named since 2019. This also follows her success in September, whereby the Legal 500, a directory of the UK’s top law firms and solicitors, described Jo as having ‘unrivaled’ experience regarding Section 106 expertise.

For numerous developers across the region and local planning authority personnel, Jo is considered the go-to advisor for advice and representation relating to S106 Agreements.

First time recognition in Chambers & Partners for Tom McPhie

Also, in the 2022 edition, Tom McPhie, senior solicitor, was independently recognised as a Star Associate for his know-how and knowledge in the Planning Law field. Tom is recommended for his ‘profile acting for local authorities on Section 106 planning obligations. He brings to bear extensive expertise on environmental and highway laws’.

Tom joined the Holmes & Hills Planning and Development Team nearly a decade ago, he works closely with developers, property owners, and local councils to draft agreements, assist in court claims, and provide specialist, tailored advice. Tom is well-regarded as having a wealth of experience advising clients on all areas of Planning Law.
