Holmes & Hills receives their best ever Legal 500 rankings in 2024

Holmes & Hills Solicitors has achieved a record number of practice area rankings in the 2024 edition of the Legal 500 legal directory. Alongside the increased number of practice area rankings, Holmes & Hills also secured its highest number of individual solicitors to be personally recognised for their expertise.

In the 2024 edition of The Legal 500, an independent list of the UK’s top law firms, Holmes & Hills Solicitors is named as one of the 'leading' law firms in the region across five specialist areas of the law. Significantly, Holmes & Hills’ Construction Division has been ranked for the first time after being named 'one to watch' in the 2023 edition. As well as this, rankings have been maintained for the firm’s Planning Law, Commercial Property, Family Law, and Clinical Negligence and Serious Injury Department.

Moreover, Holmes & Hills has been named as a ‘firm to watch’ regarding a prospective ranking for their Corporate and Commercial Department in the 2025 edition; the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Department has also been recently bolstered by the recruitment of commercial solicitors, senior associate, Craig Kelly, and solicitor, Hannan Osman.

First-time ranking for Holmes & Hills’ Construction Division

Holmes & Hills is pleased that their Construction Division received a first time ranking in 2024 as the Division has grown over the past three years to a team of 6 including 2 partners, 2 solicitors, and 2 trainee solicitors. The firm’s team of specialist construction solicitors are commended with superb commentary from the Legal 500 regarding their inaugural ranking with comments made as to the Division’s ability to routinely handle a ‘gamut of contentious and non-contentious matters with particular strength in construction adjudication claims’. As well as being noted for ‘successfully acting for a large number of scaffolding companies in making adjudication claims for wrongful termination, repudiatory breaches and validity of notices’.

Moreover, the Head of Holmes & Hills’ Construction Division, partner Sam Bawden, was singled out by one client as a ‘skillful and accomplished lawyer’, he ‘is noted for his experience of negotiating settlements in high-value disputes and court cases.’ And partner, Lawrence Pearce of the Division was recognised with ‘Rising Star’ status from the prestigious directory, acknowledging his major contribution to the practice area.

Testimonials received from the editors of Legal 500 further commended the Division’s ‘wealth of knowledge’, their invaluable support, and their ‘forward thinking and proactive’ nature.

Four other practice area rankings maintained for Holmes & Hills

Researching Holmes & Hills, Legal 500 editors recognised the firm’s Planning Law Department and how they boast ‘a broad skill set and extensive knowledge’. and the specialist planning solicitors ability to ‘routinely handle contentious issues and complex section 106 agreements.’ Moreover, the firm’s Commercial Property Department is acknowledged for their ‘wide-ranging skill set’, and their specialist ‘knowledgeable in land and development matters’.

Furthermore, the editors acknowledge Holmes & Hills’ Family Law Department’s ability to deal with ‘high-value divorces, including those with business assets, and complex child access arrangements’, and commend the ‘outstanding service’ provided by the firm’s specialist divorce solicitors. Also, many of the firm’s specialist clinical negligence solicitors were recommended and as a collective were described as ‘strong and client-focused, ensuring [the department] succeeds in obtaining favourable outcomes for its clients.’
